Home - Phonetic Tools
Dear visitor, welcome to the Phonetic Tools website!
Phonetic Tools is a collection of software that I have developed to accomplish various phonetic tasks (some of them may still be in development).
They are all absolutely free to use and can be useful to learners, teachers and researchers.
Presently, the following tools are available:
- PhonPad: an online editor of IPA trascriptions. You can use it to quickly and comfortably write IPA phonetic transcriptions, which you then simply copy-paste into other documents.
- Phonverter: an online converter for IPA and SAMPA transcriptions. You can use it to easily convert X-SAMPA transcriptions to IPA and vice versa. If you are familiar with SAMPA, you may even wish to use it to create super-fast IPA transcriptions (you simply type SAMPA and get IPA).
- Correlatore: a framework for calculating rhythm correlates from Praat's textgrids, organizing results and automatically building charts.
- Minimal Pair Finder (in development): a tool to extract as many minimal pairs as possible given 2 phonemes. For the moment, it works only for American English, Italian, Spanish and Greek, but other languages will be added in a not-too-far future.
Who am I? I am a phonetician working at the University of Lille. Visit my personal homepage if you wish to know more.
